On June 5th, the World Environment Day, we launched our newest Chapter and the first one this year at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. Kakinada is a port city and is developing rapidly. The usual challenges that apply to any rapidly growing city in India apply to Kakinada as well.
The Kakinada chapter has three primary local objectives, in addition to being a part of the other national cammpaigns of IYCN. The objectives are
1. Formation of Clean Kakinada forum - It is envisaged as a platform for local organisations and citizens to tackle the problem of pollution.
2. Teach to learn campaign in collaboration with the local carbon credit clubs.
3. To setup the Kakinada chapter as a nodal center for the coastal region of Andhra Pradesh
Going forward into the future, the team is also looking at implementing solid waste management in the town.
